3 Ways to Find Happiness at Work

According to a recent Gallup world survey, 83% of employees worldwide are not engaged at work. This means that the vast majority of people are lacking motivation, are less likely to give their best effort, and/or are unhappy and unproductive at work.

An article published in the Globe and Mail titled “Why aren’t you happy at work?” provides some causes of workplace unhappiness. So how can you find happiness at work? Follow these three strategies:

1. Change Your Perspective:

You’re more likely to find happiness at work if you expect happiness at work. Go in with a positive attitude and outlook, with an expectation of enjoying your job, being productive, and being motivated. If you expect to be unhappy in your job, then you likely will be. Expect Happiness!

2. Take Control of Your Own Happiness:

Happy people are shown to live longer lives, earn more money, be more productive, and be better citizens.1 Taking control of your happiness at work means doing what you need to do to make yourself happy; not expecting someone else to do it. Think about what it is that will make you happy, and go after it!

3. Communicate Your Needs:

Don’t be afraid to speak your mind and stand up for yourself! Talk to your employer about things that will improve your happiness at work. Don’t be afraid to give your opinions and input on how the work culture and happiness can be improved.
